Sandor Batori is an expert in drug discovery and development. He graduated at the Chemical Faculty (Medicinal Chemistry) of Technical University Budapest in 1975. He started to work at the Central Research Institute for Chemistry of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He spent 17 years there in different positions studying the synthesis and reactivity of charged N-heterocycles. In the frame of a scholarship, he spent 10 months (1981/82) at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich (Germany) supervised by prof. R. Gompper by studying the aromaticity of heterocyclic compounds and 1 year (1990/91) at the University Duisburg (Germany) supervised by D. Dopp studying the photochemical reactions of heterocyclic compounds. He changed for the pharma giant Sanofi in 1992. He was head of the Discovery Medicinal Chemistry, working on different programs in the field of pulmonary inflammation and metabolic diseases. Under his supervision 6 lead compounds were selected for further drug development. After his retirement in 2011 he worked as head of the Medicinal Chemistry Department 8 months at Albany Molecular Research Inc. (AMRI) Budapest. In 2012 he joined as an expert to SONEAS Reasearch Ltd. as the project coordinator of a grant for preclinical and clinical development of a drug candidate in Alzheimer’s disease. The Phase 1 study was successfully completed in 2016. As the consultant of the Biochemical Faculty of the ELTE TTK Hungary he participated in the development of the MPH-220, a first-in-class antispastic drug candidate that is now (April 2025.) in Phase 2 study organized by Motric Bio (USA). He participated in the preclinical development of SZV-1287 (University Pecs), resulting in a successful Phase 1 study in 2022.
